DRAW visited ‘Out of Line’ an exhibition by Wimbledon MA Drawing students at the Centre 4 Recent Drawing (C4RD) to hear from Philip Goss about the activities of C4RD and from the students about the process of curating their show.
C4RD facilitates a program of exhibitions, online opportunities, residencies and writing about drawing, as well as providing studio space. It is an entirely volunteer run organisation, which aims to provide a public platform for the breadth of drawing possibilities in current drawing practice. Education by exhibition is also a major aim of organisation.
Philip spoke about how the exhibition space and residency programme is used to facilitate work that wouldn’t be able to take place elsewhere. The exhibition space, whilst small also lends itself to socialising, with dinners and live music being staged against the backdrop of exhibitions.
‘Out of Line’ was an exhibition of multi-disciplnary drawing practice by MA Drawing students. The discussion around the show’s curation explored notions of curatorial control – who’s vision of how a work should be hung should take precedence- the artist or curator?
Following on from the DRAW event was the opening for ‘Out of Line’.
